Shimla, March 2026
The Supreme Court of India has directed the Government of Himachal Pradesh to publish a public notice regarding the pending Special Leave Petitions related to the retirement age of Class-IV employees in the state.
According to a press note issued by the Directorate of Higher Education, the matter arises from SLP (Civil) No. 20496/2024 titled State of Himachal Pradesh & Others vs. Satya Devi, along with connected cases. The petitions challenge an earlier decision of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh dated May 28, 2024 in CWP No. 2274/2021 (Satya Devi vs State of HP), which relates to increasing the retirement age of Class-IV employees from 58 years to 60 years.
During the hearing held on 20 January 2026, the Supreme Court directed the state government to inform the general public about the pendency of these petitions. The court stated that anyone interested in participating in the proceedings may do so by filing an appropriate application.
The court further ordered that the Special Leave Petitions be listed for hearing on 17 March 2026.
Following the court’s directions, the Higher Education Department of Himachal Pradesh has issued the press notice and asked newspapers to publish the information so that concerned individuals or stakeholders may approach the court if they wish to be heard in the matter.
Officials said the notice is being released strictly in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court.
