Dharamshala Apr 16 (UNI) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Prof. Chandra Kumar has called upon the scientists to come out of their respective institutions and go to the fields and barns of the farmers to encourage and make them aware of traditional and natural farming.
He said this will benefit and motivate the farmers. He expressed this idea while participating as the chief guest on the occasion of Kisan Mela organized at Nagrota Suriyan in Jwali Assembly Constituency of Kangra district on Sunday under the aegis of Agriculture Department.
The Agriculture Minister said that there is a need to bring a lot of change in the agriculture and animal husbandry business keeping in view the various circumstances in the present environment. For which he stressed upon the department to take necessary steps to motivate more and more people, especially the youth, to come forward and join them in agriculture and animal husbandry business.
He said that keeping in view the growing demand for natural products, the state government would especially encourage farmers to adopt traditional and natural farming along with production of cash crops.
He also directed to start regular training programs to the officers of all concerned departments to make people aware and encourage them for traditional farming and incorporation of newly advanced techniques.
The Agriculture Minister said that the government is working to change the structure of agriculture and animal husbandry in the state. Efforts are being made to promote this type of agriculture system so that the economy of the farmers becomes strong. It is our endeavor to reduce the use of chemicals in crops and encourage traditional and other organic farming.
He said that the state government is going to start Him Unnati Yojana for the overall development of the agriculture sector. Under this, clusters of milk, pulses, vegetables, fruits, flowers, cash crops will be made according to the capacity of the area. He has directed Agriculture, Horticulture, Jal Shakti, Animal Husbandry and Rural Development Department to make these works cluster based in the entire assembly constituency.
