Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a significant change in weather on Sunday as high-altitude areas, including the Atal Tunnel Rohtang and Lahaul Valley, received the season’s first snowfall. The afternoon snowfall covered peaks such as the CB Range, Koksar Rohtang Pass, Kunjum Pass, and Baralacha in a pristine white blanket. Residential areas of Lahaul Valley and Gulaba also recorded snowfall, marking the onset of winter. The Lahaul-Spiti Police have issued advisories urging caution amid snowfall around the Atal Tunnel and surrounding areas. Along with this, Shimla and nearby areas also receiving the first snowfall.
Sach Jot received snowfall of up to 30 cm, 3cm felll in Kiladd headquarters, and 15 cm occurred on the upper hills.
A yellow alert has been issued for snowfall in the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday and rain in other areas. Due to the fresh western disturbance, the snowfall and rain will occur from 8 to 10 December. The Minimum temperature has decreased in most areas, including the capital Shimla.
The lowest temperature of -13.1 degree Celsius has been recorded in Tabo of Lahaul Spiti. While the highest temperature was recorded at 25 degrees in Una. An alert has been issued for fog in the morning and evening on 10 and 11 December in the plain districts.
The Meteorological Center Shimla has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts on 8 December. On the other hand, dense fog is expected in the morning and evening in many parts of the reservoir area of Bhakra Dam (Bilaspur) and Balh Valley (Mandi) on 10 and 11 December.
Moderate rain and snowfall are forecast in Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur, Kangra, Shimla and Kullu districts on December 8 and 9. There is a possibility of rain in Solan, Sirmaur, Una, Bilaspur, Mandi and Hamirpur districts. On December 10, light rain and snowfall may occur at some places in the middle and high mountain areas of the state. During the next three days, the minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to fall by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state. Clear weather has been predicted in the entire state since 12th December.
The temperature of many cities in Devbhoomi, Himachal Pradesh has reached zero or is close to it. Zero degree in Bhuntar and Seobagh, 0.1 degree in Bajuara, 0.2 degree in Manali, 0.4 degree in Kufri, 0.5 degree in Solan and Barthi, 0.8 degree in Bharmour, 1 degree in Una, 1.9 degree in Sundernagar, 2.1 degree in Hamirpur, 2.8 degree in Shimla, 3.1 degree in Bilaspur, 3.2 degree in Mandi, 3.8 degree in Jubbarhatti, 4.5 degree in Kangra and 4.9 degree Celsius in Dharamshala. During the last 24 hours, the average minimum temperature of the state was recorded 2.8 degrees below normal.
