Belletristic Literature Society of Shoolini University held a session devoted to the life and works of Munshi Prem Chand. Best-known Hindi writer, Dhanpat Rai Srivastava, popularly known as Munshi Prem Chand, is also known for his simple yet deeply moving stories firmly grounded in the ethos of rural life in India.
Dr Ashoo Khosla, Director of e-learning and Innovations at Shoolini University chaired the session, She initiated the discussion with a reference to “Premchand ke Phate Joote” written by the famous author Harishankar Parsai.
Dr Prakash Chand, Assistant Prof, Hindi at Shoolini University, gave a brief overview of Munshi Premchand’s life, highlighting the main signposts in his literary career. The discussion was taken forward by Dr Purnima Bali who also moderated the session. Hemant Sharma and Neeraj Pizar also participated in the deliberations. Prof Tej Nath Dhar added his own viewpoints, as did some others who were logged into the session which was attended by scholars, critics, and students, including Jason Polley, a professor from Hongkong University.
Prof Manju Jaidka, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, announced that in the coming weeks there would be more such discussions on individual writers.
