The week long training programme organised by Shoolini University, in collaboration with Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF) at Central Instrumentation Lab (CIL), Panjab University, Chandigarh, concluded on Wednesday.
The training programme on Techniques in Biotechnology was organised by the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology (FASB) Shoolini University Solan. Prof R.C. Sobti, Professor (Emeritus), Department of Biotechnology, former Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, was the mentor of the programme.
The scheme “Synergistic Training Programme Utilising the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure” (STUTI) is intended to build human resources and their knowledge capacity through open access infrastructure across the country. As a complement to the various schemes of Department of Science and Technology, the funding for the expansion of research and development infrastructure at academic institutions, the STUTI scheme was a hands-on training programme. It was aimed at sensitisation of the state-of-the-art equipment as well as towards sharing while ensuring transparent access to science and technology facilities.
On the concluding day, Dean Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology Dr. Anuradha Sourirajan gave a report of the seven-day training event. It was followed by closing remarks by the chief guest Dr. R.C. Sobti, Chancellor Prof. P.K. Khosla, Registrar Prof. Sunil Puri and Vice Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla and the participants. Some of the participants also gave their feedback, ‘on-stage’, for the technical training programme. The participant were then awarded with the certificates by the chief guest.
Earlier, Prof. Ashish Khosla, Professor at Yogananda School of AI, Computer and Data Sciences gave his talk on ‘Artificial Intelligence’. He emphasised the need of merging Biotechnology and Artificial Intelligence.
Prof. Inderjit Singh Dua, Professor and former Chairman of the Department of Botany at Panjab University, Chandigarh, who specialises in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology, delivered the expert talk.
Prof. Kamal Dev, Director (IPR) and Professor gave a technical talk on observation of transformation results by blue-white selection. In his talk he discussed about recombinant screening, selection and analyzing methodology.
Participants from across India attended the event, they developed knowledge and also enjoyed the terrific beauty of the Himalayas where the University is nested.
