In a major crackdown, police have busted an alleged sex racket operating from a hotel in Hamirpur district, put the home turf of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
According to reports, the police team carried out a raid following a tip-off about illegal activities inside the hotel. During the operation, several individuals were detained, and women were rescued from the premises. Authorities suspect the involvement of an organized network running immoral activities under the guise of hotel operations.
Hamirpur, known as an educational hub with a high literacy rate, has now come under scrutiny after this incident surfaced.
Police officials have registered a case under relevant sections of the Immoral Trafficking Act and initiated a detailed investigation to trace the wider network and identify other accused involved in the racket.
The incident is particularly sensitive as Hamirpur is not only a key district in Himachal Pradesh but also the political base of CM Sukhu, who also holds the Home portfolio in the state.
This development raises concerns over law and order in the region, even as the state government has been projecting a strong stance against organized crime and illegal activities.
Authorities have assured strict action and said further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
