Shimla | January 25:
The state-level celebration of the 16th National Voters’ Day was held today at the historic Gaiety Theatre, where Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla honoured officers for their outstanding contribution to the electoral process in Himachal Pradesh.
On the occasion, the Governor felicitated Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, for his commendable work in the category “Training and Capacity Building on Best Electoral Practices.”
Training and capacity building play a crucial role in ensuring that elections remain credible, transparent, and inclusive. As part of Shimla district’s initiative, structured training modules were conducted to strengthen the skills and preparedness of election officials, security personnel, observers, and other stakeholders involved in election duty.
The programme focused on enhancing understanding of election laws, procedures and modern election technologies, including EVMs, VVPATs, and the use of digital monitoring tools. Special emphasis was also laid on ethical conduct, voter facilitation, fair practices, grievance redressal, and the smooth handling of election-related challenges.
Through hands-on sessions, simulations and case studies, officials were trained to respond effectively to issues such as crowd management, misinformation, and emergency situations, ensuring improved efficiency and reduced chances of procedural errors.
The recognition highlights Shimla district’s strong commitment towards strengthening democratic values by promoting free, fair and peaceful elections, while reinforcing citizens’ trust in the electoral system.
