Shimla, March 11
The Shimla Hotel & Tourism Stakeholders Association has raised serious concerns over the ongoing non-supply of commercial LPG cylinders in the city, stating that the shortage has started affecting hotel and restaurant operations.
In a letter addressed to the Director of the Department of Tourism, the association said that many hotels and restaurants in Shimla are facing severe challenges due to the disruption in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders. According to the association, several hotel kitchens have been forced to partially or completely suspend their operations, causing significant disruption to hospitality services.
The association also highlighted that the situation has become more critical because hotel staff meals are also prepared using commercial LPG cylinders. In the absence of any alternative arrangements, the wellbeing of staff and the continuity of essential hospitality services are at serious risk.
To tackle the crisis, the association has requested the Tourism Department to intervene and take immediate steps. It has urged the government to grant temporary authorization for the use of domestic LPG cylinders exclusively for preparing meals for hotel staff.
Additionally, the association has requested the authorities to coordinate with gas supply companies to ensure a limited and regulated supply of domestic or commercial LPG cylinders to hotels and restaurants so that basic kitchen operations can continue.
The association stated that such measures are crucial to sustain Shimla’s tourism and hospitality sector, which is a key pillar of the region’s economy, and urged the government to consider the matter urgently.
