A major cyber fraud case has been reported in Shimla, where a local resident was allegedly cheated of ₹11.87 lakh by scammers impersonating international businessman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The fraudsters lured the victim with promises of expensive gifts and convinced him to transfer money repeatedly in the name of delivery charges, processing fees, and taxes.
According to police, the victim, identified as Dhan Singh, a resident of Chhota Shimla, was browsing an online trading application on July 18, 2025, when he was contacted by an unknown person claiming to be Elon Musk. The caller offered an attractive deal and later directed the victim to contact a so-called delivery team on a mobile number.
During the conversation, the scammers demanded money multiple times under different pretexts. Initially, small amounts were transferred, but the payments gradually increased. In total, the victim reportedly transferred ₹11,87,644 in several installments.
After realizing he had been deceived, the victim filed a complaint with the police. The case is currently under investigation by the Chhota Shimla Police Station.
