Shimla, April 12: In a major crackdown under its ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, Shimla Police has busted a well-organised interstate chitta (heroin) trafficking network, arresting three accused, including the key supplier from Uttar Pradesh, and recovering 53.13 grams of heroin.
According to police, the case (FIR No. 31/2026 dated March 26) was registered under Sections 21, 29, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act at Rohru police station following a tip-off about drug trafficking at a shop in Guddu Mohalla, Rohru.
Acting swiftly, a police team conducted a raid in the presence of independent witnesses and recovered 53.13 grams of heroin (chitta) from the possession of two accused — Pinku Ram (36), a resident of Kanevra in Rohru, and Sunil Puharta (24), a resident of Sharountha in Tikker. Both were arrested on the spot.
During the investigation, police carried out technical analysis, including call detail records (CDR) and scrutiny of bank accounts, which revealed the existence of a larger organised supply chain operating across state lines. The probe established a backward linkage to the main supplier, identified as Salman Haider (39), a resident of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said Haider had earlier worked as a mechanic in Rohru, during which he developed local contacts and later established a drug supply network. He allegedly supplied heroin multiple times to Pinku Ram, who further distributed it among local youth.
A special team was constituted to trace the accused, and after sustained surveillance and coordination, Haider was arrested from Bijnor on April 11.
With the arrest of the kingpin, police claim to have dismantled a significant interstate drug network. The accused has been produced before the court, and further investigation is underway to identify other links and beneficiaries in the chain.
Shimla Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying action against drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information to curb the menace.
