Himalayan Forest Research Institute (HFRI), Shimla, and Shoolini University, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for research and education.
The MoU between Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (I.C.F.R.E.) – HFRI and Shoolini University marks a significant milestone in quality research, environmental conservation, and the development of highly skilled human resources. Both institutions aim to address critical challenges in biodiversity assessment, climate change, skill development, biotechnology, health, and wellness in the Himalayan region.
I.C.F.R.E. – Himalayan Forest Research Institute (HFRI): HFRI, a Regional Research Institute of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), is renowned for its groundbreaking work in forestry research and education. Its mandate includes diverse areas such as conservation, agroforestry, medicinal plants, and eco-restoration, making it an invaluable asset for the region’s ecological well-being.
The MoU will be a collaborative efforts between the two organizations. It envisions a future filled with cutting-edge research, student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and more. The ultimate goal is to create a positive impact on society and promote economic development through sustainable practices in the Himalayan region.
Key Areas of cooperation between I.C.F.R.E. – HFRI and Shoolini University will be exchange of information and experience: Regular joint meetings will facilitate the exchange of experiences in education and syllabus development, fostering an atmosphere of shared learning.
Faculty and Student Exchange Programmes: Both institutions will explore opportunities for faculty and student exchanges, enabling access to diverse perspectives and knowledge. Both institutions will work towards creating a sustainable funding model by tapping into various sources, including local governments, international funding agencies, industries, and alumni support.
Collaborative research findings and community engagement projects will be shared with proper acknowledgment to the individuals involved at both institutions, contributing to the broader body of knowledge.
Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Director of HFRI Shimla, said that the world-class labs at Shoolini University will be instrumental in facilitating groundbreaking research. The field work conducted by HFRI scientists will be significantly enhanced by leveraging the cutting-edge facilities at Shoolini University.
Prof PK Khosla Chancellor Shoolini University said “Our joint efforts will pave the way for groundbreaking research and sustainable solutions, fostering a brighter future for the Himalayan region.” He also announced that now at shoolini university forestry research and education programmes will be starting soon. Prof. PK Khosla, was also the driving force behind establishing the Forestry Department at UFH Nouni in 1975—a department that continues to thrive—Prof. Khosla commended Shoolini University’s dedication to advancing forestry research and education.
