A 2-day workshop on “Energy and Environment Research” was organised by Mahatma Gandhi Government Engineering College, Kotla, Jeori (Sunder Nagar campus). Dr. Navsal Kumar, Assistant Professor of the School of Core Engineering (Shoolini University), was invited to the workshop as a keynote speaker to deliver an expert lecture on “Role of Artificial Intelligence and Remote Sensing in Agricultural Water Management”. The workshop had other invited speakers from IIT Mandi, NIT Hamirpur, and HPU Shimla.
More than 100 students and faculty of B. Tech. Civil and Mechanical Engineering of the college attended the workshop. Dr. Kumar apprised them about the recent scientific advances in the field of irrigation and water resources. He particularly stressed the role of remote sensing and artificial intelligence and how they have changed conventional methods of irrigation. Dr. Kumar also delivered a hands-on-training session on “Modelling irrigation indicators using soft computing techniques” in MATLAB software. Additionally, he presented case studies from his published research articles to students for their better understanding. Students asked their doubts related to the particular topic, and their queries were effectively cleared by the speaker.
Dr. Navsal Kumar also interacted with Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director cum Principal (MGGEC), and the faculty members of the Civil and Mechanical Engineering department of the college.
