Shoolini University celebrated Earth Day with a purpose-driven event that seamlessly blended sustainability, innovation, and artistic expression. The celebration, held on campus, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across departments, all united under the banner of environmental consciousness and creative action.
The highlight of the day was the spirited Interdepartmental Eco-Challenge, which saw departments competing in four dynamic categories—Clean Energy Live Demo, Waste-to-Wonder DIY Challenge, Green Bazaar Exhibition, and Poster Making. The participants displayed exceptional creativity and teamwork through live demonstrations of clean energy models, innovative products made from discarded materials, powerful posters centered on the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” and stalls promoting the ethos of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences emerged as the Overall Winner, while the School of Biotechnology and the joint team from the School of Agriculture and the School of Bioengineering and Food Technology secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively. In the Clean Energy competition, the School of Biotechnology clinched the top spot, with the School of Agriculture as runner-up. The Waste to Wonder-DIY event saw the School of Bioengineering and Food Technology triumph, followed by the Chitrakoot School of Liberal Arts as runner-up.
The Green Bazaar competition was won by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, while the runner-up title was shared by the School of Law and the School of Biotechnology. In Poster Making, the Yogananda School of AI, Computers and Data Science bagged the first prize, with the School of Biotechnology and the School of Bioengineering and Food Technology claiming the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
Visitors were also treated to a delightful array of sensory experiences, including naturally blended drinks, handmade cards, mango cheesecake, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and Northeast Indian delicacies, making the event both a celebration and a heartfelt call to action.
Adding further depth to the celebration was a campus cleaning drive, organised in partnership with Bisleri under their Bottles for Change campaign. This hands-on initiative encouraged the Shoolini community to contribute directly to cleaner surroundings while reinforcing the importance of plastic recycling.
In a creative twist to the day, a sketching workshop was also organised for students. Mr. Sanjeev Chauhan, a renowned local artist, guided participants through the intricate techniques of sketching, sharing his knowledge and igniting a passion for art among the students.
“Earth Day at Shoolini was not just a celebration—it was a movement,” said Mrs Poonam Nanda, Director Sustainability at Shoolini University . She further added “It captured the spirit of sustainability through competition, creativity, and community participation, and it’s inspiring to see our students and faculty lead the charge towards meaningful change.”
