Shoolini University has decided to establish another university to study the ancient Indian wisdom named Shoolini Yogananda University of Ancient Indian Wisdom. The new university is proposed to be set up in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister Mr Jai Ram Thakur was apprised about the plans for setting up the university during a meeting at Shimla on Tuesday by top management of the university including Chancellor Prof P K Khosla, Vice Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla, founder Trustee Mr Satish Anand and Mrs Saroj Khosla members of the Shoolini’s Management.
The Chief Minister, evinced keen interest in the proposal and enquired about the site and other details of the project. He was informed that the new university would like to study and relate modern advances with the ancient advances in science and technology which have been sidelined by the Mughal and English rulers over the centuries. He said this was also in line with the New Education Policy of the central government.
The Chancellor said that the new university would be set up in the lines of ancient Centres of learning like Takshashila, Nalanda and Ujjain. He said it was decided to set up the university in Sirmour district which was lacking in institutions of higher learning.
The Chief Minister agreed in principle to be the Chief Guest during the ensuing blended (virtual and in-house) Convocation during end February or in March. He also apprised the Chief Minister about the commendable strides made by the university during its 11 years of existence. He said the university topped India in the 2021 QS rankings for citation index, which is an indicator of quality research in institutions with 14th rank across Asia in the same field. Shoolini got ranked among first 300 Asian Universities with 38th place in India and joint sixth among Indian private universities.
It was recently placed in the band from six to 25 in the Atal Rankings of private Institutions on Innovations and Achievements (ARIIA) at the all-India level recently.
The University had also got the prestigious QS international certification for excellence in Academic digitalisation and was shortlisted for Times Higher Education (THE) in the category of “Outstanding Student Support” for the Asia Awards 2020.
It was also shortlisted for the category of “Outstanding Support for Students” for the implementation of its Skill Progression Through Rapid Intensive and Innovative Training (SPRINT) Programme with SIQANDAR.AI, a software developed for assessing and guiding students for soft skills and interviews.
