Shimla
Serious questions are being raised after the issue surrounding the distribution of substandard musambi saplings under the Shiva project came to light. Farmers and local residents have alleged negligence at multiple levels, demanding transparency and accountability from the authorities.
The biggest concern is why the saplings supplied to farmers were not of standard musambi grade and why their quality was not properly inspected at the nursery level. Critics are questioning whether the Shiva project has been reduced to merely fulfilling government targets and showcasing success on paper, rather than ensuring real benefits to farmers.
Anger intensified following the death of a farmer linked to the alleged losses, with villagers asking whether even such a tragic incident is not enough to fix responsibility on senior officials. They have also questioned why the investigation report has not been made public and whether there is an attempt to shield those responsible.
Farmers have further asked whether government schemes are truly meant for their welfare or if they are being sacrificed in the process of implementing these projects.
Demand for Justice
Affected farmers and villagers have urged the government to immediately release the investigation report, take strict action against guilty officials, compensate for losses caused by faulty saplings, and provide financial assistance to the deceased farmer’s family.
They warned that if the matter is suppressed today, the Shiva project could claim another victim in another village tomorrow.
