Fire incidents in Himachal Pradesh continue unabated. Even as the shock of the recent Arki fire tragedy in Solan district has not faded, another horrific incident has been reported from Sirmaur district.
A major fire broke out late Saturday night in the NohraDhar area, leaving six people dead after they were reportedly burnt alive while sleeping inside the house. One person was rescued from the debris in critical condition and rushed to Rajgarh Hospital.
SDM Sangrah Sunil Kaith confirmed the incident and said the fire occurred between 2 am and 3 am in Talangana village. Preliminary reports suggest the blaze was triggered by a short circuit. The situation worsened after an LPG cylinder inside the house exploded, causing the fire to spread rapidly and engulf the entire structure within minutes.
At the time of the incident, seven people, including children, were inside the house. Due to the sudden spread of flames, most of them did not get a chance to escape. Locals also reported that some domestic animals were killed in the fire.
Villagers and police initiated rescue efforts immediately, as fire tenders could not reach the remote location in time. The injured person is said to have suffered severe burn injuries and remains in a serious condition.
Authorities have stated that the fire is now under control, and relief and rescue operations are ongoing at the site.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns over safety infrastructure in hill areas, especially regarding ageing power lines, old houses, and lack of fire safety measures.
