Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN informed that SJVN has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project today, marking the significant milestone in the Company’s journey towards strengthening the nation’s power generation capacity.
Sh. Gupta congratulated all employees for this remarkable accomplishment and highlighted that this success not only showcases the technical excellence of SJVN, but also reflects the dedication and coordinated efforts of employees, contractors and all stakeholders.
Sh. Gupta further stated that 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project is located at Bikaner district of Rajasthan and is being implemented by SJVN through its wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL).This project will generate 2,454.55 million units of electricity in its first year of operation, and approximately 56,838 million units cumulatively over 25 years. The maximum usage charges have been fixed at ₹2.57 per unit, thereby contributing to the availability of affordable green power to consumers. The generated solar power from the project will be supplied to the States of Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), appreciated the collective efforts of all involved and stated that the project has been developed on 5,000 acres of outright-purchased land near Village Banderwala in Bikaner District, Rajasthan, one of the highest solar-yield regions in the country. He further stated that the commissioning of this project contributes significantly towards achievement of the Government of India’s target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Sh. Sipan Kumar Garg, Director (Finance) SJVN, stated the project is developed at the cost of ₹5,492 crore and has been executed under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode, utilizing domestically manufactured solar photovoltaic cells and modules, thereby supporting the Make in India initiative. In addition to supplying clean energy to the grid, the project will result in an estimated reduction of 27,85,077 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Earlier the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, laid the foundation stone of this project on 3rd January 2023 at Jaipur, Rajasthan.The 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project has been developed under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme – Phase II, Tranche III, of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. Implementation under the DCR mode is expected to provide a further boost to the indigenous solar manufacturing ecosystem.
