First Spiti Marathon on Sep 28-29
Manali, Ultra runner and Snow Marathon’s brand ambassador Tenzin Dolma has brought laurels for the Himachal Pradesh by winning the longest race at the Leh Marathon organized by Leh Administration and Indian Army from September 5-8, 2024. The four day event witnessed the participation of around 6200 runners from 28 states of the country and 24 countries of the world. The races were organized in different categories wherein longest run was the 122 km Silk Route Ultra Challenge. Dolma won the same title by clocking 17:03:15 . On reaching her home in Manali, the native welcomed her sporting star enthusiastically. The 37-year-old Dolma, who was participating in this marathon for the second time in the women’s category, not only won the race but also broke her previous record timing of two hours eight minutes and 37 seconds. The race was held in the open category. Shikha Pahwa finished second with a timing of 19:25:39 while Sufiya Sufi had to settle for the third place with a timing of 20:36:19. The Ladakh Marathon also featured the 72-km long Khardungla Challenge, 42-km full marathon, 21-km half marathon and other short races..
Dolma was honored with a total amount of Rs. 3.5 lakh, gold medal and a certificate.
Dolma, a dhaba owner by profession and mother of one child, has been doing ultra racing for the last six years. She plans a weekly run of about 60-70 kms on the hills of Manali and Lahaul. For this success, she thanked the Snow Marathon Lahaul, which is held every March, of which she has been the brand ambassador and champion for the last three years. Apart from that, Dolma has won the 480 km Hell Race in 2020, Patalsu Peak Trail in 2020, 60 and 100 km Solang Sky Ultra Trail in 2021. She has secured fourth place in the Tata Mumbai Marathon and New Delhi Marathon. In the year 2023, she completed the 72 km Khardungla Challenge and the 102 km Rohtang Ultra Challenge. Dolma is now eyeing the Spiti Marathon to be held on September 28 and the 2024 IAU 100km World Championship to be held in Bengaluru in December, for which she will practice hard to win the titles.

In order to promote sports in the Spiti region, the Indian Army in association with Team Snow Marathon is going to organize the first edition of Spiti Marathon on 28th and 29th September. Entry in the marathon is free and nearly 1000 athletes from nook and corner of the country are expected to participate. Organizer Gaurav Schimer informed that the marathon will be organized in four categories. The 77 km long Spiti Avengers Challenge will be held from Kaza to Samdoh while the route for the 42 km full marathon will be Samdoh – Hurling – Samdo. The stretch of the 21 km half marathon is from Samdoh – Gyu – Samdoh. Apart from these, a 10 km fun run will also be organized.
