Following a ten-week dry spell, Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla including the nearby tourist destinations Kufri, Fagu, Chansel, Narkanda and the Churdhar ranges, as well as several high mountain passes, has been receiving the snowfall since Monday morning.
Earlier, on December 8, the first snowfall of the season fell in the higher elevations, including Shimla. The snow brought in cheer to the farmers, apple growers, and hoteliers.
The Meteorological Center Shimla has predicted rain and snowfall in various areas of the state. According to the forecast issued by the department, rain and snowfall may occur in most parts of the state today and tomorrow. The weather is expected to remain clear in the entire state on 25 and 26 December. There are chances of rain and snowfall again in Himachal Pradesh from 27 to 29 December. During this time, there is a possibility of snowfall in the hilly areas and rain in the lower areas.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert of a cold wave in the plains and medium-altitude areas of the state for the next three days, i.e. from 24 to 26 December. During this period, there will be a yellow alert of dense fog in the plains of Mandi and Bilaspur districts. According to the report of the Meteorological Center Shimla, the minimum temperature of six cities in the state was recorded in minus on Monday. The minimum mercury in Tabo of Lahaul-Spiti was -10.2 degrees Celsius.
Due to the fall in mercury in the higher reaches of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu, the water of lakes, waterfalls, streams and other natural water sources has frozen. The mercury was recorded at -5.3 degrees in Samadho, -3.7 degrees in Kukumseri, -2.5 degrees in Kalpa, -0.4 degrees in Reckong Peo, 0.7 degrees in Kufri, 0.9 degrees in Bajuara, 1 degree in Bhuntar, 1.3 degrees in Solan, 1.5 degrees in Palampur, 1.7 degrees in Sundernagar, 1.8 degrees in Manali, 2.4 degrees in Una, 2.5 degrees in Seobagh, 2.8 degrees in Barthi, 2.9 degrees in Bharmour, 3.3 degrees in Sarahan, Hamirpur and Chamba and 3.4 degrees Celsius in Shimla.
