National Science Day (NSD) is Celebrated at Jaypee University, Waknaghat, Solan, H.P. through Third National Science Day Symposium
National Science Day for the year 2024 was celebrated at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Solan with multifarious activities. This year the NSD activities were planned in an exclusive offline mode where a poster and model presentation competition was organized along with a special session of debate and declamation. One one-day workshop for school and college teachers was also organized in JUIT on recent technologies in Computer Science, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. This event was jointly organized by the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and the Department of Physics and Materials Science. NSDS-2024 was convened by Prof Tiratha Raj Singh and Dr Ragini Raj Singh. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of JUIT Prof RK Sharma along with Dean (Academics and Research) Prof AK Gupta inaugurated the event. Participants from various schools, colleges and universities of Himachal Pradesh joined this event. Posters, models, debates and declamations were evaluated by the teams of learned judges from various departments of JUIT which includes Prof Vineet Sharma, Prof Jata Shankar, Dr Anil Kant, Dr Poonam Sharma, Dr Saurabh Srivastava, Dr Saurabh Bansal, Dr Surajit Hazra, Dr Ashok Nadda and Dr Santu Baidya. Popular lectures were delivered by Prof P B Barman and Prof Anupriya Kaur. The organization of this event was successfully supported by coordinators of various committees which include Dr Hemant Sood, Dr Rahul Shrivastava, Dr Nishant Jain and Dr Shikha Mittal. The students committee was coordinated by Mr Rahul Singh, PhD scholar from the PMS department. This year the event was financially supported by HIMCOSTE, the government of HP along with JUIT and catalyzed by NCSTC, DST, government of India. It was technically sponsored by the Centre for Healthcare Technologies and Informatics (CEHTI), JUIT. The whole program was conducted by final year MSc Biotechnology students Sneha and Bishal.
In addition to that, there were multiple activities organized by JUIT at various places during the last three weeks. Quiz competitions were organized in three different schools, St Lukes School, Solan, Government Sr Secondary School, Lalpani, Shimla, and Chapslee School, Shimla. Winners of these competitions were honoured with certificates of awards along with cash prizes. Model, poster, debate and declamation competition winners were also awarded with certificates and cash prizes. Winners for various competitions and in various categories were from St Lukes School, Solan; Loreto Convent School, Shimla; DAV School, Kandaghat; Chapslee School, Shimla; Tagore Vanasthali Public School, Kasauli; Government Sr Secondary School, Lalpani, Shimla; DWPS, Kandaghat; DIET, Solan; COE Government College, Sanjauli, Shimla; Government College, Solan; Bahara University, Waknaghat etc. A One Day Workshop was organized by JUIT in collaboration with Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV) Longwood, Shimla, (HP). Another one-day workshop was organized at Khalsa College, Patiala. One Career counselling session along with a science day celebration was made at Government College Sunni. Many other schools and colleges were visited by JUIT faculty members for National Science Day awareness and its importance and career counselling sessions for the students. No need to mention that JUIT is one of the pioneer Universities in Himachal Pradesh and all the Northern parts of India in organizing and celebrating science at different levels through various activities. Activities with improved passion will be organized next year also.
