On the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister, the late Rajiv Gandhi, party leaders and workers paid their tributes at the State Congress Headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan today.
State Congress President and former MP Pratibha Singh, All India Congress Committee Secretary and co-incharge of state affairs Vidit Chaudhary, Forest Corporation Vice President Kehar Singh Khachi, Himuda Vice President Yashwant Chhajta, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surendra Chauhan, Harikrishna Himral, State Women Congress President Zainab Chandel, along with former State Congress Committee officials, Shimla Municipal Corporation Congress councillors, and Women Congress, Seva Dal, Youth Congress, NSUI officials and workers, also paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi’s photograph on this occasion.
On this occasion, State Congress President Pratibha Singh, while remembering Rajiv Gandhi in her address, said that his contribution in building a modern country will never be forgotten. She said that the father of IT in the country, the computer revolution, has taken the country to the pinnacle today. Rajiv Gandhi will always be remembered for many works, like women’s empowerment, 50 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions, and the right to vote for 18-year-old youth.
All India Congress Committee Secretary and Co-in-charge of State Affairs Vidit Chaudhary said that Rajiv Gandhi’s idea of strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions and their development plan was born in Himachal Pradesh itself, when he met the people here during his tour of the state. He said that he has made a major contribution to women’s empowerment. He said that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and now Priyanka Gandhi are also raising the slogan of Rajiv Gandhi’s dream of 50 percent reservation for half the population of the country, full rights, and women power in any election. Furthermore, he said that Rajiv Gandhi was the source of inspiration for the Congress party and will always remain so. For this, he called upon all the party workers to strengthen the ideology of the Congress party with unity and connect more and more people with the party.
Vidit Chaudhary accused the BJP of vote theft and said that Rahul Gandhi has exposed the BJP’s conspiracy in the elections with facts. He said that the BJP can do anything to turn the election results in its favor. He said that the impartiality of the Election Commission has also come under doubt.
Vidit Chaudhary said that Congress is intensifying the campaign of ‘Vote Chor, Kursi Chhod’ in the country. Under this, a state-level rally will be organized at the party office Rajiv Bhawan in Shimla on August 22 at 12 noon. In this, the party’s state affairs in-charge, Rajni Patil; the chief minister; the state congress president; the deputy chief minister; all the ministers, MLAs and all the leaders of the party will be present.
