Shimla
The State Food Commission, Himachal Pradesh, conducted inspections at Government Primary School, Government Middle School, and the Fair Price Shop in Ruldu Bhatta area of Shimla. During the visit, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. SP Katyal, examined the school’s cooking area and food quality to ensure proper hygiene and compliance with cooking safety provisions. During inspection, the school records were also checked.
During the visit, interaction was held with children, parents, and Mid-Day Meal workers/cooks, during which certain anomalies were noted, for which corrective measures were suggested. The school staff was directed to improve food quality, ensure the presence of at least one parent to check the meals, maintain hygiene during the cooking process, and provide safe drinking water to the children.
During the visit, local councilor Saroj Thakur was called on the spot and advised to ensure that garbage dumping and other unhygienic conditions near the school should be taken care of regularly. She was also requested to attend the School Management Committee (SMC) meetings so that the unhygienic conditions around the school can be rectified, preventing children from being exposed to infections.
