Arki: Sanjay Awasthi, MLA from Arki, said the Himachal Pradesh government is providing women equal opportunities to progress in every field. He was addressing a function organized by the Women and Child Development Department, Solan, on the occasion of International Women’s Day in Ward No. 7 of Nagar Panchayat Arki.
Awasthi said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state government is taking several initiatives to empower women. He mentioned the recently announced special recruitment drive for female sub-inspectors in the police department and the provision of 30 percent reservation for women in police recruitment.
He added that the government has increased the incentive under the Widow Remarriage Scheme from ₹65,000 to ₹2 lakh. Under the Matri Shakti Insurance Scheme, assistance of around ₹1 lakh has been provided to 61 families until December 31, 2025. The incentive for inter-caste marriages has also been raised from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh.
Awasthi said respecting women’s power and bringing a positive change in societal mindset is the responsibility of everyone.
During the event, he planted a guava sapling under the ‘Ek Boota Beti Ke Naam’ initiative and signed a pledge under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. He also visited exhibitions organized by the Women and Child Development Department and honoured women who have excelled in various fields.
The MLA listened to public grievances during the programme and directed concerned departments to resolve them promptly. Anganwadi workers also presented cultural performances on the occasion.
