Solan, March 8
Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi said that the state government is committed to ensuring women’s equal participation in development and making them economically self-reliant. He was addressing a function organised by the Ambuja Cement Foundation on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Darlaghat in Arki Assembly constituency.
He said International Women’s Day is celebrated to honour the struggles and achievements of women, adding that women have always been at the forefront of their duties and deserve equal opportunities and respect in society.
Awasthi said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, the state government is implementing various schemes aimed at empowering women and strengthening their role in society.
The MLA announced that shops for selling products made by self-help groups will soon be constructed in Darlaghat to ensure better market access and fair prices for women.
He further stated that a milk processing plant costing around ₹30 crore will be set up in the Arki Assembly constituency in the near future to cater to Darlaghat, Dhundhan, Baridhar and nearby areas. The project has already received approval and is expected to boost milk production while creating employment and self-employment opportunities for women and youth.
Awasthi urged women to take full advantage of the schemes being implemented by the state government for their empowerment. He also visited exhibitions put up by self-help groups.
The MLA said that development of the Arki constituency remains his priority. He informed that ₹15 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of an ambulance road in Roudi village and ₹10 lakh for the Kotla-Datti-Shivnagar road, and work will begin soon.
On the occasion, members of various self-help groups presented cultural programmes. The MLA also honoured women who have made outstanding contributions in different fields.
Earlier, Sanjay Sharma, Regional Manager of Ambuja Cement Foundation, welcomed the chief guest and highlighted the activities of the foundation.
Several dignitaries, officers from various departments and women associated with self-help groups were present at the event.
