Another devotee who went on Kinnar Kailash Yatra in Kinnaur district died on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Gaurav son of Dilip Kumar, resident of Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh). According to the information, Gaurav had left for Kinnar Kailash Darshan from the base camp on August 18. While returning from Kailash Darshan at around 9 am on Tuesday, a stone suddenly fell from the hill near the cave, due to which he died on the spot. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the QRT and police team reached the spot and took the body in possession and brought it down with the help of laborers. So far 5 devotees have died during Kinnar Kailash Yatra this year.
Kailash Yatra closed due to continuous rain and accidents
Due to continuous rain and falling of stones from the hill and fog in the district, the district administration has closed Kinnar Kailash Yatra-2025 with immediate effect. District Magistrate Kinnaur Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma issued an order under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act-2005 saying that bad weather remains a serious threat to the devotees.
Possibility of rain for 5 to 7 days, precautionary steps taken
The DC said that the Meteorological Department has predicted rain for the next 5 to 7 days, due to which this precautionary step has been taken. He also informed that action will be taken against any person found trying to go on the Kailash Yatra route as per the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and the pilgrims will be immediately sent to the base camp. He also informed that SP Kinnaur has been instructed to ensure the safe return of the pilgrims in collaboration with the Home Guard and Forest Department, while SDM Kalpa has been asked to coordinate with local bodies and tourism organizations.
7253 pilgrims visited this year
This year, a total of 7253 pilgrims participated in the Kailash Yatra officially run from 15 July to 18 August. Of these, 2373 registered online and 4195 registered offline, while 685 pilgrims participated through the Kinnaur Tourism Organization. On 19 August 58 onwards and 5 travellers (up to Milling Soil only) were recorded.
