Shimla
“A clean environment is life itself. Where there is environment, there is water; where there is environment, there is us.” With this message, on the occasion of World Environment Day, NSS volunteers, faculty members, Registrar Prof. Dr. R.L. Sharma, NSS Program Officer Dr. Pyar Singh, and Media Coordinator Dr. Vijay Shree of APG Shimla University planted saplings in the university campus on Wednesday.
On this occasion, Registrar Prof. Dr. R.L. Sharma, Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Neelam Sharma, Media Coordinator Dr. Vijay Shree, and faculty member Ashwani Sharma urged every section of society to contribute to environmental protection. They also announced, on behalf of the university, that all NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members would carry out a week-long plantation drive in their respective hometowns.
Registrar Dr. R.L. Sharma planted a Chinar tree in the premises of the Journalism Department and, while interacting with NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members, said that the world is currently facing an environmental crisis, including a severe water crisis and declining groundwater levels. Incurable diseases are on the rise. While governments are making efforts to address this issue, without public participation and awareness, results cannot be achieved quickly.
NSS Program Officer Dr. Pyar Singh emphasized that environmental protection is one of the most pressing issues in the world today. If nature, forests, and the environment are preserved, everything will survive—water, people, and wildlife. He strongly stated that tampering with the environment is equivalent to playing with human life. Hence, it is the responsibility of every individual across the globe to contribute to environmental conservation.
Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Neelam Sharma highlighted that Indian culture and literature have always advocated for environmental protection. A friendly and harmonious relationship with nature is essential for a safe and happy human life.
On this occasion, Media Coordinator Dr. Vijay Shree extended her gratitude to the students of the Journalism Department and NSS volunteers for creating environmental awareness videos. She appreciated their creative efforts and the inspiration they are spreading among the public for environmental conservation.
