A dramatic face-off unfolded on the streets of Shimla on Thursday after Congress leader Yudhveer Singh Bains was stopped by the police, triggering a heated exchange and political controversy.
According to reports, Bains was intercepted by police personnel for verification, but the situation quickly escalated into a public confrontation. Eyewitnesses said the leader got into a sharp argument with officials, leading to chaos on the road and drawing a crowd.
Bains alleged that the police action was not routine but an attempt to intimidate him. He went a step further, claiming there was a “conspiracy” against his life and accused the state leadership of targeting him after he raised complaints of corruption.
In contrast, police officials maintained that the stop was part of a standard verification process. Some reports also indicate that action was linked to traffic rule violations, with authorities stating due procedure was followed.
The confrontation continued for a considerable time, briefly disrupting normal movement in the area and creating a tense atmosphere. A video of the incident has since surfaced on social media, further intensifying the political buzz around the episode.
The incident has sparked fresh debate in Himachal Pradesh’s political circles, especially as it involves allegations from within the Congress ranks against the state leadership. Officials have yet to issue a detailed statement on the claims made by Bains.
