District level Public Distribution System Committee review meeting held
A review meeting of the District-Level Public Distribution System Committee was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. The meeting included a detailed review of quarterly work.
The Deputy Commissioner said that ration is being provided through 624 fair price shops in the district. This includes 347 cooperative societies, 229 individual, 2 Mahila Mandal, 04 Gram Panchayat and 41 shops of Food Supply Corporation. 1308 inspections were conducted in the district from September to November in which irregularities were found in 13 shops and a fine of Rs 12,200 was collected from them. Out of 37 samples of various food grains taken from June to August, the report of 4 samples was found unsatisfactory. Three Aadhar registration centres are running in the district.
Apart from this, the proposal to open fair price shops in village Sarahan of Gram Panchayat Baragaon under Development Block Narkanda, village Khamadi of Gram Panchayat Khamadi of Development Block Nankhari, village Vajaiti and Runkali under Theog was approved in the meeting.
Anupam Kashyap said that ration is being provided through fair price shops under various schemes. Additionally, ration is being provided at Anganwadi centers. The department has been directed to ensure that food items are stored properly in fair price shops and that people receive the correct ration. If any complaint is received regarding the sale of spoiled food items at a fair price shop, strict action will be taken. Food depots should maintain a steady supply so that the public does not face any problems.
55,839 ration card beneficiaries found suspicious
Following this, a review meeting of the District Level Vigilance Committee was held, where the successful implementation of the National Food Security Act 2013 was discussed. The district’s target is to cover 84,636 families under the National Food Security Act 2013. This includes 72,147 families in rural areas and 12,849 in urban areas. A total of 66,230 families have been selected in Shimla district. It was revealed at the meeting that 55,839 ration card beneficiaries have been found to be suspicious. This could significantly impact the selection of beneficiaries.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Divyanshu Singal, District Controller, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Narendra Dhiman and other officers were also present in the meeting.
