Health is wealth
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil said that only when every woman in the state is healthy, every family will be empowered and a strong society will be created.
Dr. Shandil was sharing his thoughts during the launch of the Healthy Women Empowered Family Campaign held at IGMC here today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 15-day Healthy Women Empowered Family Campaign at an event held in the Dhar region of Madhya Pradesh today.
Dr. Shandil said that a healthy body is our wealth, so we should get our health checked regularly to keep our families healthy and build a healthy society. He added that in today’s times, anyone can fall victim to any disease, so regular health checkups are essential. He urged health officials to work to spread this campaign to every corner of the state so that every family can benefit from it. He noted that there are many remote areas in the state where even women have to work hard, which adversely affects their health. He said that in accordance with the Chief Minister’s vision, health facilities are now available in every rural area of the state. Additionally, model health institutions are being opened in the state, which provide six specialist doctors. He added that health services in the state are being continuously improved.
Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, M. Sudha Devi, stated that the Healthy Women, Empowered Families campaign will be run from September 17th to October 2nd, with a target of health checkups for 800,000 women in the state. She added that ASHA workers will bring women from their areas to health centers for checkups.
Managing Director National Health Mission Pradeep Thakur presented the welcome address and Director Health Services Dr. Gopal Barry presented the vote of thanks.
Earlier, the Health and Family Welfare Minister visited the exhibition and performed the Annaprashan ceremony of a little boy organised by the Women and Child Development Department and wished him a bright future.
MLA Shimla Urban Harish Janartha, Deputy Mayor Municipal Corporation Shimla Uma Kaushal, Director National Health Mission (Government of India) Dr Govind Bansal, Director Medical Education Dr Rakesh Sharma, Principal IGMC Dr Sita Thakur, Chief Medical Officer Shimla Dr Yashpal Ranta and other dignitaries were also present in the program.
The purpose of the Healthy Women Strong Family Campaign
With the aim of strengthening women’s health and family well-being, the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan will be launched across the state from September 17th to October 2nd, 2025. The campaign aims to improve women’s health outcomes and empower families. The campaign aims to improve women’s health outcomes and empower families through targeted interventions. It aligns with national priorities such as the Poshan Abhiyaan, Ayushman Bharat, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, while also tailoring solutions to Himachal’s unique demographic and geographic context.
The campaign will provide medical check-up and health services to all women, including ENT, eye, blood pressure, diabetes and dental check-up, cancer-oral/breast/cervical, antenatal check-up for pregnant women, vaccination services, anaemia status, telemedicine facilities, TB testing, sickle cell anaemia and specialised counselling.
To facilitate access to health services, beneficiaries will be registered in Mother and Child Protection (MCP) Card, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana enrolment, Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card, Sickle Cell Card and Nutrition Tracker.
Health intervention and service delivery activities include anemia screening, menstrual hygiene education, maternal health checkups, nutrition counseling, and adolescent health outreach. Mobile health teams and health camps will be deployed in all districts, especially in tribal and hard-to-reach areas.
Collaboration with the departments of Women and Child Development, Education, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj will ensure the overall impact of the campaign. Joint planning and coordinated implementation will maximize resource utilization and community participation.
Digital dashboards and real-time reporting will be used to monitor outreach, service delivery, and health indicators. District-level scorecards and feedback loops will guide mid-course corrections and policy refinements.
Training modules will be developed for ASHAs, ANMs, and Anganwadi workers to improve service quality and community engagement. High-performing health workers will be recognized and incentivized to boost morale and accountability.
Special sessions on menstrual hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and reproductive health will be held in schools and Anganwadi centers. Peer-teacher models and youth clubs will be organized to promote leadership and awareness among adolescents.
Gram Sabhas and Mahila Mandals will be key partners in creating awareness. Members of Panchayati Raj Institutions and local influential people will be involved to ensure participation, dissemination of information, and cultural sensitivity.
