    The LR Group of Institutes and LLR Educational Trust organised a state-level Environment Conclave and Himachal Climate Action Awards 2026 at the institute in Solan under the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative.

    The event brought together students, educators, environmental experts, entrepreneurs and community organisations to promote environmental conservation, climate action, sustainable development, green innovation and public participation.

    Dr Hariminder Singh Bawa, Vice-Chancellor of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, was the chief guest, while Yogesh Aindle, board member of the School of Inspired Leadership, attended as the guest of honour.

    Addressing students, Dr Bawa said climate change and environmental degradation were among the major challenges facing society and stressed the need for greater engagement with young people on these issues. He also encouraged students to stay away from drugs, maintain a positive outlook and work with focus and determination towards their goals. He invited students to visit the Nauni university campus.

    Aindle urged students to develop leadership skills, embrace new ideas and work on innovative solutions. He described young people not merely as the future of the country but as important “change-makers” in the present, calling upon them to take the lead on environmental and social issues.

    Students showcase climate solutions

    Students from schools and colleges across Himachal Pradesh participated in the conclave and presented their ideas, research and innovations related to climate change, environmental conservation and sustainable development.

    The expert jury comprised Dr Prem Lal Gautam, agricultural scientist and Padma Shri awardee; Dr Ritesh Arya, noted hydrogeologist and founder of the Tethys Fossil Museum; and Rumit Walia, Manager—Youth Affairs, Earth Day Network.

    Shruti Raghuvanshi, Samriddhi, Harsimran Kaur and Aradhana Sandhu of Alpine Public School secured the first position. Shodashi Sharma of Doon Valley Public School, Nalagarh, and Arshia of DAV Solan jointly secured the second position, while Pridhi Thakur of DAV Solan stood third.

    Cash prizes were awarded to the top performers, while participating students received certificates of appreciation.

    The conclave also featured research paper presentations, oral presentations and e-posters. An oral presentation panel was chaired by Dr TD Verma, retired professor, Forestry Department, while Dr Amit Sharma and Dr Surbhi Sharma of Motherhood University, Roorkee, served as chairperson and co-chairperson respectively for the e-poster presentations.

    Green innovations take centre stage

    An exhibition showcasing environmental and sustainable development initiatives was also organised. Start-ups, local entrepreneurs, women’s self-help groups, natural farming organisations and makers of eco-friendly products displayed their work and innovations.

    Local products, handmade goods, natural products and environmentally friendly innovations were among the exhibits. Participants and exhibitors were presented certificates of appreciation.

    The Himachal Climate Action Awards 2026 were a key highlight of the event, recognising notable efforts in environmental conservation and climate action.

    LR Group of Institutes Managing Director Shachi Singh said environmental protection could not be limited to a single day or event. She said the institution aimed to make young people not just aware of environmental challenges but active participants in finding solutions.

    “Environmental responsibility is not only the government’s responsibility; it is the responsibility of every individual,” she said, emphasising the importance of reducing unnecessary plastic use, protecting water sources, preventing water wastage and maintaining cleanliness.

    She said small, consistent actions could collectively lay the foundation for significant environmental change and added that the LR Group of Institutes would continue engaging students and young people in environmental initiatives.

    Faculty members and staff, including Dr PP Sharma, Dr Suresh Chauhan, Dr Kanchan Bala Jaswal, Dr Avneet Gupta, Dr Shweta Sandhu, Surat Singh, Dr Sunil Deshta and Hussain Zaidi, were also present.

    The event concluded with the message: “Innovate for the Environment. Inspire Sustainable Change.”

    Three electric buses launched to boost rural connectivity in Shahpur

    Shahpur, August 14: Rural connectivity in Himachal Pradesh’s Shahpur Assembly constituency is set to receive a boost with the introduction of three new electric buses, aimed at providing safer, cleaner and more accessible public transport in underserved areas.

    Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania recently flagged off the buses from the SDM office premises. The buses will operate from Dharamshala on rural routes connecting Tatwani, Bandi, Rehlu, Lanj, Harnera and Bhaled.

    The new services are expected to benefit residents travelling for education, healthcare, employment and other essential needs, particularly those living in areas with limited public transport.

    Pathania said the state government, under Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, was working to modernise the public transport system. He said 297 electric buses have been added to the HRTC fleet, marking a step towards cleaner and greener mobility in the state.

    Electric buses are also expected to reduce fuel consumption and vehicular emissions while offering passengers a more comfortable travel experience.

    The launch of the three buses is being seen as more than an expansion of public transport in rural Shahpur, with local residents hoping that similar services will be introduced on other underserved routes in the constituency.

    The event, coordinated by Vikrant Chauhan, Assistant Professor at Shoolini University, witnessed enthusiastic participation from trained cyclists of the university who rode with remarkable energy, discipline, and commitment towards spreading awareness about the importance of protecting the environment. The initiative aimed to encourage individuals to embrace sustainable lifestyle practices while highlighting cycling as a healthy and environmentally responsible alternative to motorized transport.
    Participants traversed designated routes carrying the message of reducing pollution, conserving natural resources, and contributing to a cleaner and greener future.     On the occasion of World Environment Day, the LR B.Ed Department organized a series of awareness programmes involving trainee teachers and NSS volunteers to promote environmental conservation and sustainable living.

    The programme commenced with a special prayer assembly during which trainees and faculty members took a pledge to protect and preserve the environment. Principal Dr. Nisha, along with teaching and non-teaching staff of the B.Ed Department, was present on the occasion.

    The celebrations began with the NSS volunteers launching the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The initiative aims to encourage trainees, teachers and members of society to plant a tree in honour of their mothers while spreading the message of environmental protection.

    As part of the programme, trainees presented a street play highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and cleanliness. A poster-making competition, speech competition and “Best Out of Waste” activity were also organized to encourage creativity and environmental awareness.

    In the poster-making competition, Palak’s team secured first place, followed by Mahak Chauhan’s team in second place and Tanjeen’s team in third place. In the “Best Out of Waste” competition, Chomo’s team emerged victorious. Kritika Kashyap won the speech competition, while Ananya and Reena jointly secured second position.

    Participants displayed remarkable creativity by transforming waste and discarded materials into useful items, demonstrating the importance of recycling and sustainable practices.

    Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Nisha said that the environment is not only the foundation of human life but also a priceless legacy for future generations. She urged people to plant trees and reduce plastic consumption, emphasizing that a clean environment is the cornerstone of a healthy society and a strong nation.

    The programme concluded with a collective commitment to environmental protection, cleanliness and sustainable living.

    Former minister Suresh Bhardwaj on Friday stressed that environmental conservation is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to actively participate in protecting natural resources, while addressing a plantation drive organised at Orchid School, New Shimla, on the occasion of World Environment Day

    A plantation drive was organised at Orchid School in New Shimla on World Environment Day, with participants highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, sustainable development and community participation in protecting nature.

    Former minister Suresh Bhardwaj, who attended the event as the chief guest, said environmental protection should not remain confined to a single day but must become a continuous public movement. Referring to growing pollution, climate change and increasing pressure on natural resources, he said every individual has a responsibility towards safeguarding the environment.

    “Protecting nature is synonymous with protecting humanity. If we preserve our natural resources today, future generations will inherit clean air, safe water and a healthier environment,” Bhardwaj said. He urged citizens to plant at least one tree and take responsibility for its care, adding that plantation drives should evolve into people’s movements rather than remain symbolic exercises.

    BJP State Co-Media In-charge Sudeep Mahajan said World Environment Day serves as a reminder of society’s duties towards nature. He noted that every sapling planted today contributes to environmental balance, cleaner air and greener surroundings in the years to come. He stressed that environmental conservation must be transformed into a mass movement, with students and young people playing a pivotal role.

    Students of Orchid School actively participated in the plantation drive and pledged to contribute towards environmental conservation. They were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices and play an active role in building a cleaner and greener future.

    Held under the guidance of Dr. Shalini Sharma, Director, SILB, the competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who creatively expressed their thoughts on environmental protection, sustainability, and the importance of preserving natural resources. The winners of the competition were:

    Marking World Environment Day, the Sashastra Seema Bal Shimla organized a large-scale plantation drive on Friday, with officers, personnel, trainees and members of the Wives Welfare Association (Sandiksha) family participating enthusiastically in the initiative.

    More than 100 saplings were planted in and around the campus as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation and create awareness about sustainable living.

    Addressing the participants, Dr. A.F. Khan, Commandant (Medical), Sashastra Seema Bal Shimla  emphasized the importance of protecting the environment amid growing concerns over pollution, deforestation and climate change. He said the environment forms the foundation of human life and safeguarding natural resources is a collective responsibility.

    Under the leadership of Chairman and Managing Director, Bhupender Gupta, SJVN organized a tree plantation drive in Shimla today under the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ to celebrate World Environment Day and take a significant step towards environmental conservation.

    On this occasion, Director (Personnel),  Ajay Kumar Sharma, CVO, Pankaj Porwal and Lt. Col. Lakhwinder Singh, 133 Infantry Battalion (TA) Eco Dogra planted saplings as part of the tree plantation drive. This tree plantation drive was organized at Chamiyana, Shimla, in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh State Forest Department.

     Ajay Kumar Sharma stated that, as a testament to the collective commitment towards environmental conservation, 150 saplings of Deodar, Oak, Walnut, Pomegranate and other tree species were planted. He further stated that the initiative would help inspire greater awareness and action towards environmental protection.

    The plantation drive witnessed active participation from officials of 133 Infantry Battalion (TA) Eco Dogra, Himachal Pradesh State Forest Department and Heads of Departments, senior officials and employees of SJVN Corporate Headquarters, Shimla, marking a meaningful step towards achieving a greener future.

    Shimla, June 2: The Himachal Eco Warriors of the 133 Ecological Task Force (ETF) have launched an ambitious plantation campaign aiming to plant 75,000 saplings across the region ahead of World Environment Day, reinforcing efforts towards environmental conservation and ecological restoration.

    The campaign began with a plantation drive at Chamiyana in collaboration with SJVN Limited and the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department. The initiative focuses on planting indigenous tree species to strengthen biodiversity and enhance environmental sustainability.

    The programme was inaugurated by Ajay Kumar Sharma, who planted a walnut sapling, in the presence of Pankaj Porwaal. Personnel from the 133 Ecological Task Force, SJVN Ltd., and the Forest Department actively participated in the drive.

    Alongside plantation activities, awareness programmes were conducted to educate local communities about the importance of forest conservation, ecological balance, and sustainable environmental practices.

    The plantation mission forms part of the larger “Know Your TA Mela” initiative and will culminate during the event, highlighting the significant role played by Ecological Task Force units of the Territorial Army in environmental protection and sustainable development across the country.

    Officials said the campaign reflects a collective commitment towards creating greener landscapes and fostering environmental stewardship among citizens.
