Baby Show, Dog Show & Nati King Kuldeep Sharma to Highlight Day 3 of Shimla Summer Festival 2026
Education Minister Rohit Thakur to attend cultural evening; Shyamala Manthan, Mushaira and Zumba performances also on the schedule
One of the major attractions of the day will be the Healthy Baby Show, scheduled to be held at 10:00 AM at Rani Jhansi Park. Winners will be awarded cash prizes of ₹25,000, ₹20,000 and ₹15,000 for the first, second and third positions, respectively.
Animal lovers will also get an opportunity to showcase their pets at the “My Champion – Dog Show”, to be organized near the Police Assistance Booth. Similar cash prizes of ₹25,000, ₹20,000 and ₹15,000 have been announced for the top three winners.
The ongoing Anti-Chitta Inter-District Volleyball Championship will continue at the Municipal Corporation Ground, Sanjauli, where teams from various districts will compete from 11:00 AM onwards.
The festival will also feature Shyamala Manthan at the historic Gaiety Theatre. Participants securing first, second and third positions in Hindi and English speech competitions will receive cash prizes of ₹51,000, ₹31,000 and ₹21,000 respectively.
A Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan will be organized at Gaiety Theatre at 2:00 PM, where poets from across the state will present their literary works. Theatre enthusiasts can also enjoy the staging of the play “Man Ke Bhanwar” under the Rangmanch Utsav.
At 4:00 PM, students from various schools will perform a vibrant Zumba Dance in front of the Police Reporting Room. Later, visitors will witness a Fun Attraction Show featuring character performances, living statues and floral displays from 6:00 PM onwards.
Artists from different states participating through the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) will entertain visitors with traditional folk music and cultural performances throughout the evening.
The highlight of the third day will be the Himachali Cultural Evening, dedicated entirely to local artists. The event will begin at 4:00 PM on the main stage, while the grand cultural evening will be attended by Education Minister Rohit Thakur as the chief guest.
Renowned Pahari folk singer Nati King Kuldeep Sharma will be the star performer of the evening and is expected to draw large crowds with his popular Himachali folk songs.
The District Administration has also informed that the entire programme of the International Shimla Summer Festival-2026 will be streamed live on the official Facebook page of DC Shimla.

Poets’ Meets to Mark Shimla Summer Festival

As part of the International Shimla Summer Festival 2026, Hindi and Pahari poets’ conferences dedicated to literature, language and culture will be organised at the historic Gaiety Theatre auditorium. Renowned poets from Himachal Pradesh and across the country will participate and recite their works during the literary events.
The International Shimla Summer Festival Committee has invited literature enthusiasts, students, researchers and the general public to attend the programmes and gain a deeper understanding of Himachal Pradesh’s rich literary and cultural heritage.
Hindi Poets’ Conference – First Session
The first session of the Hindi Kavi Sammelan will be held on June 8, 2026, at 10:30 am at the Gaiety Theatre auditorium. Prominent poets, including Dr Om Prakash Saraswat, Dr Rekha Vashisht, Prof Meenakshi F. Paul, Dr Satyanarayan Snehi, Jagdish Bali, Ajay, Ganesh Gani, Roshan Jaswal, Dr Rajan Tanwar, Pradeep Saini, Deepti Saraswat, Priyamvada Sharma, Madhu Sharma Katyayani, Rajiv Trigarti, Dr Vijay Lakshmi Negi and several others, will present their poems.
Hindi Poets’ Conference – Second Session
The second session will be held on June 8, 2026, at 2 pm at the same venue. The session will feature poets including K.R. Bharti, Atma Ranjan, Dr Dinesh Kanwar, Kumarajeev Pant, Dr Dinesh Sharma, Mohan Sahil, Virendra Sharma, Ratna Chand Nirjhar, Anita Sharma, Rakesh Kumar Singh, Sneh Negi, Gupteshwar Upadhyay, Gulpal Verma, Dr Jai Chand, Gurmeet Bedi, Kuldeep Sharma and many others.
Pahari Poets’ Conference
The Pahari Kavi Sammelan will be organised on June 9, 2026, at 10 am at the Gaiety Theatre auditorium. Eminent Pahari poets, including Dr O.P. Sharma, Dr Mast Ram Sharma, Dr Surat Thakur, Dr Karam Singh, Dr Shankar Vashisht, Trilok Suryavanshi, Pratap Prashar, Ram Lal Pathak, Ashok Dard, Uma Thakur Nadhaik, Krishna Chand Mahadevia and others, will recite their compositions.
Mushaira on June 10
A Shyamala Mushaira will be organised on June 10, 2026, at 2 pm at the Gaiety Theatre auditorium, Shimla. Distinguished Urdu poets and shayars from different parts of Himachal Pradesh will present their ghazals and literary works.
Among those participating in the Mushaira are Dwijendra Dwij, Ramesh Dadhwal, Kuldeep Garg Tarun, Anant Alok, Vikas Rana, Rajnishwar Chauhan, Javed Ulfat, Zahid Abrol, Navneet Sharma, Abhishek Tiwari, Pratap Jaryal, Pavnendra Pawan, Naresh Deog, Sumit Raj Sumit, Satpal Khayal and Kartik Sharma.

Shimla hosts launch of Sumit Raj’s ghazal collection, brings together literary voices from across North India

Shimla, June 1:
The Himachal Pradesh unit of the Progressive Writers’ Association on Saturday organized the launch of ghazal poet Sumit Raj’s latest collection, “Ghar Banaun Ki Phir Kitaab Likhoon”, at the Gaiety Conference Hall in Shimla. The event also featured a Mushaira and a poetry symposium, drawing writers, poets and literary enthusiasts from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The programme was chaired by noted litterateur Suresh Seth, while Himachal Pradesh Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar attended as the chief guest. Among those present were Prof Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, General Secretary of the All India Progressive Writers’ Association, Punjab Progressive Writers’ Association president Surjit Singh Jaj, poet-critic Atma Ranjan, literary critic K R Bharti, writer Manmohan Singh, poet Roshan Jaswal, Dr Narendra Sharma, and renowned poet Kuldeep Sharma.
The gathering also witnessed the presence of acclaimed Urdu poet Dr Jatinder Parwaz, Secretary of the Urdu Department at the Haryana Sahitya and Sanskriti Academy, Vidya Nidhi Chhabra and former Himachal Pradesh Language Academy secretary Dr Karam Singh.

The guests were felicitated with traditional shawls and mementoes before the formal release of the book. During a discussion on the collection, several speakers, including S N Joshi, Atma Ranjan, Jatinder Parwaz, Manmohan Singh, K R Bharti, Surjit Singh Sirsa and Suresh Seth, shared their views on Sumit Raj’s work and praised the literary merit of his ghazals.

Addressing the audience, Sumit Raj spoke about his creative journey, the process behind the collection and his commitment to contemporary ghazal writing.
The session was moderated by writer and poet Romita Sharma.
The post-lunch session featured poetry and ghazal recitations by a number of poets. Ajay Vichalit conducted the poetry session, while K R Bharti delivered the concluding remarks. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks.
