Hamirpur, December 26. Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh has directed officials of the Jal Shakti Department to pay special attention to the cleanliness and quality of drinking water in the district and to conduct maximum sampling and testing in the field. Presiding over a meeting of the District Drinking Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) here on Friday, he said that the active role of Panchayat representatives, educational institutions, and village drinking water and sanitation committees is also essential to ensure the quality of drinking water.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the Jal Shakti Department is regularly collecting water samples. Field testing kits have also been provided to all senior secondary and high schools, Anganwadi centers, gram panchayats, and approximately 1,575 village drinking water and sanitation committees in the district. Water testing using these kits is very easy. All educational institutions, panchayats, and village drinking water and sanitation committees should use these kits to ensure the highest water quality in the district and prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
Amarjit Singh said that traditional water sources should also be cleaned regularly. There should be no filth around these traditional water sources and drinking water schemes. Sewage treatment plants and solid waste plants should also operate in compliance with all regulations. Water tanks in all educational institutions, public places, and homes should be cleaned regularly.
At the meeting, Rakesh Garg, Secretary of DWSM and Executive Engineer of the Water Power Department, presented a detailed report on the mission’s activities and drinking water testing. DRDA Project Officer Asmita Thakur, Deputy Director of Higher Education Dr. Mohi Ram Chauhan, and officials from other related departments were also present.
