The Training of Master Trainers for Hazard Resistant Safe Construction Practices, organized by the Civil Engineering Department, JUIT in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Shimla, commenced today at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat. The event was graced by Vice Chancellor Prof. RK Sharma, who highlighted the critical importance of constructing hazard-resistant buildings in disaster-prone regions. He stressed that it should be a priority to ensure that this valuable training reaches professionals at the grassroots level.
The program was initiated thanks to the visionary leadership of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Shimla, Mr. Anupam Kashyap, whose dedication to enhancing disaster preparedness made this training possible. Special thanks were extended to him for his invaluable support and foresight in launching this initiative.
The program began with an address by Dr. Tanmay Gupta, Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department and coordinator of the training. He discussed the importance of celebrating International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDRR) through this program, which includes both practical and theoretical components.
Dean of Academics and Research, Prof. Ashok Gupta, emphasized the need to strictly follow building codes and regulations on construction sites to ensure better and safer structures. Prof. Ashish Kumar, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, thanked all the participants and wished for a productive three-day training.
The event saw the participation of 26 Assistant Engineers (AE) and Junior Engineers (JE) from Shimla District, who will become master trainers and spread safe construction practices at the grassroots level. The program will continue until October 16, focusing on crucial aspects such as heritage preservation and adherence to codal provisions for disaster resilience.
