EIACP PC Hub, Himachal Pradesh Council of Science, Technology and Environment (Himcost) Shimla organized a tree plantation campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at Government Senior Secondary School Shakrah, Ghanahati, Shimla under “Mission Life”!
On this occasion, apart from tree plantation on “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, art, debate competitions and awareness lectures were also organized. The students and teachers of the school took out a rally related to environmental awareness. The purpose of the rally was to make the general public aware about tree plantation and environmental protection.
The chief guest at the program was Mrs. Nisha Bhaluni, Deputy Director (Primary), Shimla. The chief guest said in her speech that it is my good fortune that I was invited here as the chief guest today and got the opportunity to share this important occasion with all of you. She informed the children about the importance of forests on the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.
Indu Gupta, Principal, Government Senior Secondary School Shakrah, Ghanahati, Shimla welcomed everyone to the program. He informed the children about the importance of forests. He said that the objective of this program is to promote environmental conservation and increase green cover.
Priyanka Sharma, Scientific Officer and Coordinator, EIACP PC Hub, Himcost Shimla gave information about the organization of the program. She asked to spread awareness about the importance of forests and plant as many trees as possible for environmental conservation. She also informed the children about tree plantation under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and requested everyone to take care of the plants regularly and fulfill their responsibility towards the environment. She said that this program has been celebrated under Mission Life and she made them aware about Mission Life and encouraged them to adopt an environment friendly lifestyle.
Pankaj Sharma, District Science Supervisor, Shimla, in his address said that trees are the basis of our life. They not only provide us oxygen, but also play an important role in water conservation, soil protection and conservation of biodiversity. We must plant at least one tree every year to protect our environment.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions by the chief guest. In the art competition, Yashasvi, class plus two, got the first prize in the senior category, Gaurav, class plus two, got the second prize and Parth, class 10, got the third prize. In the junior category, Gunjan, class VI, got the first prize, Rajveer, class VI, got the second prize and Bhavna, class VIII, got the third prize. In the speech competition, Pallavi got the first prize, Kareena got the second prize and Mayank got the third prize.
At the end of the program, the children were also made to take a pledge on Mission Life.
