Sukhu Government Burdening the State with Debt While Promoting Political Activities in Delhi
12 October 2026 | New Delhi/Hamirpur:
Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur strongly criticized the gathering of Congress workers at Himachal Bhawan in Delhi, alleging that the state government was allowing a public institution to be used for political activities. He said Congress leaders were already making irresponsible statements against constitutional institutions and had now turned Himachal Bhawan into a political centre. He added that this was not the first instance of the Congress using the government premises for political purposes.
Referring to the shirtless protest staged by Congress workers during the AI Summit, Thakur said the incident had embarrassed the country on an international platform. He alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had provided shelter to the Congress workers who left the protest site, first at Himachal Bhawan and subsequently in Himachal Pradesh.
Thakur said that Congress workers had once again gathered at Himachal Bhawan in the Mandi House area, with approximately 200–250 people reportedly making it difficult for ordinary citizens to enter and leave the premises. He added that Himachal Pradesh government officials, leaders and other visitors were also facing inconvenience while accessing the building.
He emphasized that Himachal Bhawan was meant to serve the people of Himachal Pradesh and facilitate official work, not function as a center for political mobilization. While the state was facing the burden of mounting debt, he alleged, the Congress government was simultaneously allowing the premises in Delhi to be used for political activities.
Thakur further alleged that the Congress was crossing established limits in the name of protests, causing unnecessary inconvenience to the public. He said public premises should remain accessible for citizens and administrative purposes, and political gatherings should not obstruct the functioning of government offices or inconvenience ordinary visitors.
