Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap said that under the Central Government’s Rahveer Yojana, the citizens who help in taking the injured people to the hospital in road accidents will now be given an amount of 25 thousand by the government. Under the scheme, those people will be specially honored who will take the victim to the hospital within the golden hour (first one hour) of the accident.
The Deputy Commissioner was presiding over the meeting of the District Road Safety Committee held here today.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the police department to identify such helpful citizens who have helped the injured in road accidents in the past so that they can be honored. Apart from this, he also urged all the members of the committee to inform the district administration about such citizens so that people can get information about this scheme and people come forward enthusiastically to help others in case of such incidents.
A district-level workshop on road safety was organized on 28th July.
The Deputy Commissioner said that a district-level workshop on road safety will be organized on 28 July 2025 at Bachat Bhawan, in which all stakeholders will participate. He said that after the district-level workshop, subdivision-level workshops will also be organized. He said that whatever encroachment is there on the road should be removed immediately so that any kind of possible accident can be prevented.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the Municipal Corporation to identify accident-prone spots in Shimla so that traffic signals, etc., can be installed there, keeping in mind road safety as per the need. Apart from this, he also directed the preparation of a list of dry trees on the roadside to ensure the safety of the people so that further action can be taken in this direction.
Regional Transport Officer Anil Sharma said that the Transport Department is organizing eye checkup camps and blood donation camps from time to time. In addition to this, the Transport Department periodically issues challans for commercial vehicle overloading. He said that youth are being made aware by visiting educational institutions and driving training institutes. Apart from this, he said that there are fewer pollution checking centers in Shimla, on which the Deputy Commissioner asked to find the option of mobile vans and provide pollution checking facilities to drivers during the passing of the vehicle.
Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma, other members of the committee and officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
