District-Level NCORD Meeting Held in Solan
Solan, March 28:
Deputy Commissioner Solan, Manmohan Sharma, emphasized that collective efforts from all sections of society are essential to curb the growing menace of drug abuse. He was presiding over a meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) held here today.
Addressing the meeting, Sharma said that under the directions of the state government, the “Chitta-Free Solan Campaign” is being actively implemented to tackle the issue of drug abuse, particularly the synthetic drug ‘Chitta’. He informed that awareness campaigns are being conducted across the district to educate people, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of drugs. He also announced that a large-scale “Chitta-Free Rally” will soon be organized in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the police department to carry out regular inspections in and around educational institutions to prevent drug-related activities. He stressed the importance of internal awareness programs in schools, colleges, and universities to sensitize students.
Sharma further stated that the district administration is committed to making Solan drug-free. Committees have been constituted at the village panchayat level to strengthen grassroots monitoring and awareness. Special focus is being given to gram panchayats identified as red zones for drug abuse, where intensified surveillance and intervention measures are being undertaken.
During the meeting, representatives from universities and various voluntary organizations shared valuable suggestions to strengthen anti-drug initiatives in the district.
The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Solan Tirumalaraju SD Verma, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Chandel, Deputy Commissioner State Tax and Excise Shilpa Kapil, SDM Solan Dr. Poonam Bansal, SDM Arki Nishant Tomar, SDM Kandaghat Gopal Chand Sharma, District Health Officer Dr. Amit Ranjan Talwar, District Programme Officer Dr. Padam Dev Sharma, District Welfare Officer Vivek Arora, along with officers from various departments and representatives of universities and voluntary organizations.
