Himachal Pradesh has received less than 40 per cent of rainfall this winter. In 6 Panchayats of Upper Shimla, people are not getting drinking water even after 10 to 12 days.
Local people alleged that water is not being given to the general public even after several days, while there is no shortage of water in hotels and home stays in the area. Mohan, a resident of Bhekhalti, said that there is no shortage of water in the drains, but this problem is due to the fault in the distribution system.
Advocate Pawan Sharma told that he is not getting supply of drinking water since 15 days. Now the situation is getting very serious. He has made serious allegations against the departmental officers regarding the distribution of water.
Roop Ram, deputy head of Dehna panchayat, told that people in most of the houses of his panchayat are worried about not getting water. People are not getting drinking water since 10 to 12 days. The situation is more serious in Kadarab, Talai, Fagu.
He told that he has met the officials of Jal Shakti Department many times and demanded regularization of drinking water supply, but the lice did not even crawl on the ears of the departmental officials. This has made it difficult to feed the domesticated cattle. He alleged that there was no shortage of water in Fagu and nearby hotels.
Dinesh Jagta, head of the Chiyog panchayat, said that his panchayat is also getting water supply every week. People in Bani, Kufri, Shutenya panchayats are also facing severe drinking water crisis. The situation is that people do not have the option of fetching water from stepwells etc. as all the sources of water in the area have dried up.
Pradeep Chauhan, Assistant Engineer (SDO) in Jal Shakti Vibhag Theog said that water is supplied once a week in Fagu and its surrounding areas. Due to which water was not available after 10 to 12 days,, the solution will be find out and water will be supplied sooner.
