Shimla, March 12: The Himachal Pradesh State Election Commission has issued a notification initiating the ward delimitation process for selected urban local bodies in the state following changes in their municipal boundaries.
According to the notification, certain areas have been newly created or included in urban local bodies. These include the inclusion of areas in Rohru under the municipal body, inclusion of additional areas in Una Municipal Corporation, and the creation of a new Nagar Panchayat in Bir.
The commission has announced a detailed schedule for the delimitation of wards. As per the programme, the draft proposal for ward delimitation will be published on March 12, 2026. Residents of the concerned municipal areas can submit objections or suggestions regarding the proposed delimitation until March 19, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioners will review and dispose of these objections by March 23, 2026. Any appeals against their decisions can be filed before the concerned Divisional Commissioner within seven days of the order. The appeals will be decided by April 1, 2026.
After this process, the final delimitation orders will be issued on or before April 3, 2026, and the reservation of wards will be completed by April 6, 2026. Following the finalization of delimitation and reservation, the Deputy Commissioners will submit the final report to the state government, which will then forward the reservation order to the Election Commission.
The notification was issued by Anil Kumar Khachi. The commission has directed the Deputy Commissioners of Shimla, Una and Kangra districts to implement the delimitation process as per the prescribed guidelines.
