Shoolini University, is hosting a week-long theatre festival at Open Air Theatre shoolini campus premises from April 17 to April 21. The festival is the university’s second festival after the successful musical event, Panchlight, last year, organised by Shoolini Creative Studio.
One of the main highlights of the festival is “The Seven Horses of the Sun,” an adaptation of Dharamvir Bharti’s book of the same name, which was later made into a film directed by Shyam Benegal. This play, curated by Shoolini Creative Studio under the direction and design of NSD alumni Ankur Saxena Bashar, delves into metafictional storylines of dreams and reality while also discussing the need for story and the cycle of violence. It touches upon the deep-rooted class system.
Another play, “One on One,” directed by Ranjit Kapoor along with his team Rage Production, will present a series of monologues following various slice of life and the ranging emotions of people. Additionally, “Baithak,” a play by Team Raabta, written by Patras Bukhari and directed by Shamir, will showcase Dastangoi, an Urdu oral storytelling art format from the 13th Century.
The festival will conclude with “With Love Aapki Saiyaara,” a mono-act play written, directed, and performed by Juhi Babbar Soni. This play highlights gender issues, especially the agony of underprivileged women. The stage will also feature various other artists, including Achint Marwah, Smita Juwatkar, and other legendary guest performers.
