Shimla, March 9
Women of the Matrishakti Gram Sangathan celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm in Dhali Bagda village of the Mashobra block. On the occasion, women captivated the audience by performing the traditional Pahari Nati to various mountain songs.
Former head of Peeran Panchayat Kiran Sharma and Mahila Mandal Dhali Bagda head Promila Thakur attended the programme as chief guests.
Addressing the gathering, Kiran Sharma said that although women are progressing rapidly in every field, it is a matter of concern that incidents of atrocities against women in society have not decreased. She also advised the youth to stay away from drug abuse and spoke in detail about the importance of women’s empowerment.
Anganwadi assistant Poonam Thakur said that welfare schemes implemented by the state and central governments for the socio-economic upliftment of women have enabled many women to become self-reliant and contribute positively to society. She also boosted the morale of the women by reciting a poem highlighting the role and contribution of women in society.
On this occasion, women also presented a play highlighting the issue of drug addiction and spreading awareness about its harmful effects. Through songs and plays, messages about the importance of girls’ education and their all-round development were also conveyed. Poonam Thakur and Anjali also entertained the audience with their performances.
Anjana Devi of the Matrishakti Village Organization welcomed the chief guests. Other women present on the occasion included Sunita Thakur, Sarita, Asha, Kavita, Priya Anjali, Pushpa, Poonam, Ritika and several others.
