Mandi: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said that women have held the highest place in Indian society since the Vedic period and their contribution is vital for the progress of the nation.
He expressed these views while attending programmes organised in Saroa and Bali Chowki of the Seraj Assembly constituency during his visit on Sunday. The events were held to honour Matri Shakti and reaffirm the commitment to the idea of Antyodaya on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Addressing a special programme organised by Setu Social Welfare Trust in Saroa, Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated traditional games and said that no nation can progress without the active participation of women. He added that the dedication and hard work of millions of mothers and sisters have played a key role in strengthening the country.
Highlighting women’s courage, he said that Indian women have brought pride to the nation by serving on the frontlines during challenging situations, including military tensions. Referring to Indian cultural traditions, he said that women have always been accorded great respect in society.
He also remembered historic personalities like Rani Lakshmibai and Ahilyabai Holkar, who not only showed bravery but also proved their leadership through capable governance.
Later, Jai Ram Thakur attended a workshop of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Training Campaign-2026 at Bali Chowki. Addressing party workers, he stressed strengthening the organisation and spreading the principles of Antyodaya and Integral Humanism so that development reaches the last person in society.
