Due to heavy rainfall in Pangi, a tribal subdivision of Chamba district since 24 August 2025, the main road of the valley, which comes under the Border Roads Organisation has suffered heavy damage. The culvert near Siddha Mandir has completely broken due to heavy rains due to which traffic has been disrupted, the main road near the main bridge (valley bridge) built on Mahalu Nala has also been damaged, the main bridge built in Gharwas which has been built by the Border Roads Organisation has also been damaged due to which people are facing a lot of difficulty in commuting. This information was given today by Resident Commissioner Pangi Raman Gharsangi. He said that the Border Roads Organisation is working on a war footing to restore the road.
Resident Commissioner Pangi said that roads of Public Works Department have also been damaged due to heavy rains. The Executive Engineer of Public Works Department has been instructed to open the roads soon and 11 JCB machines, one dozer and one tipper have been put to work. The Executive Engineer is personally inspecting the work at various places. The Gujral Nala-Hudan road from sub-divisional headquarters Kilad is also quite damaged and the culvert built in it has also been washed away due to rain. The culvert built on Karyas Nala has also been damaged. A path has been made by making additional cutting for traffic. The road from Kilad to Sach Pass is expected to open by the evening of September 1, while the road from Sach Pass towards Chamba is closed at places called Satrudi, Karath Nala, Kalaban and Ranikot, for opening which work is being done on a war footing. He said that he himself is monitoring the progress of the work and has given instructions to the department to open the roads as soon as possible.
Raman Gharsangi said that the Jal Shakti Department has also worked on a war footing to restore the disrupted drinking water scheme and has restored 90% of the water supply, while the remaining 10 percent work related to drinking water supply is being completed soon.
He informed us that the Food Civil Supplies Department has 4488 domestic cylinders filled and apart from this, 3475 commercial cylinders are also filled. Besides this, 5557 quintals of wheat, 3281 quintals of rice, 2309 quintals of flour, 1249 quintals of sugar, 506943 liters of edible oil and 19 quintals of salt are available in the wholesale warehouses of Pangi which is sufficient for more than a month in this area.
He informed us that the mobile network, which was damaged in many places due to heavy rains, and the optical fiber cable of the Jio company, due to which there was no Jio network in Kilad, the headquarters of Pangi Valley, from 25.8.2025 to 29.08.2025, had been restored on 30.08.2025.
