Shimla, April 8
The Centre of Excellence in Energy Science and Technology (CEEST) at Shoolini University, in collaboration with Ditanium and the Indian Planetary Society (IPS), Mumbai, recently organised an engaging workshop on Astronomy, Sustainability and hands-on STEM activities at the CSLC Science Museum, Shoghi, Shimla.
The workshop aimed to popularise science, astronomy, and the goals of sustainable development among young minds in Himachal Pradesh. A total of 42 school students and teachers from St. Xavier’s School, Calcutta, participated enthusiastically in the sessions.
The event was led by Prof. S.S. Chandel, Director of CEEST and Vice President of the Indian Planetary Society. Prof. Chandel delivered an insightful talk on Climate-Responsive Solar Technologies and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on achieving Net Zero energy targets. He also reflected on the visionary initiative taken by the Himachal Pradesh Government in 1994 to establish the Science Museum and Planetarium at Shimla, which has since grown into a vibrant science hub and a popular tourist destination.
Mr. Sam Gibbs, a renowned expert from Ditanium, captivated the audience with a fascinating session on the universe, solar system, and galaxies. He also conducted an interactive hands-on workshop on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), offering students and teachers a chance to explore scientific concepts in a fun and practical manner.
