A workshop on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013)’ was organized here today under the chairmanship of Akanksha Dogra, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, courtesy of District Legal Services Authority.
Akanksha Dogra said that where women are worshipped, God resides there, therefore we all should respect women. She said that through social awareness, emphasis should be laid on preventing crime and evils like female foeticide and increasing awareness in the society.
Giving detailed information about the background and current provisions of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, he said that it is the duty of all officers in the office to provide a safe environment to women. If any incident of sexual harassment occurs with any woman officer or employee, then they can complain to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) constituted at the departmental level. He said that if the Internal Complaints Committee has not been constituted, then a complaint can also be made to the Local Complaints Committee. He said that there are provisions for punishment against women if their complaints are found to be false. He said that all committees should be updated on the online She Portal.
Akanksha Dogra said that it is important for women to be aware of their rights and legal provisions so that they can raise their voice against sexual harassment crimes at workplace. She said that keeping in mind the seriousness of sexual harassment cases, the cases should be heard quickly so that the victim can get justice.
He said that in many cases, crimes against women are not registered due to ignorance and fear of defamation. Many women hesitate to lodge a complaint even after the crime is committed due to fear of social defamation. He asked all women to be aware of their rights and legal provisions.
In the workshop, information was provided on the subject of corruption and about lodging its online complaint before the Lokpal.
On this occasion, the people present were also administered the oath on drug prevention.
