Shoolini University celebrated World Cancer Day with a series of activities on February 3rd and 4th. A cricket tournament, a session on cancer awareness and prevention for housekeeping staff, and visits to cancer wards were among the events.
The Shoolini YouWeCan Cricket Championship featured eight university teams, with the Baby Boomers emerging as champions. For his outstanding performance, Akshay Chawla was named Man of the Match. Yuvraj Singh, the cricketer, signed special gifts for the winners.
Volunteers from YouWeCan and the university’s Team Dean Student Welfare (DSW) visited the cancer ward at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla to spend time with patients. They presented a fruit hamper and well wishes for a quick recovery.
A cancer prevention and awareness session was also held for the university’s female housekeeping staff. The session was led by Dr. Sumedha Kushwaha of the Yuvraj Singh Foundation, who emphasised the importance of early detection and preventive measures. Mrs. Poonam Nanda, DSW, moderated the session, which was attended by approximately 100 staff and volunteers.
