Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change (DEST&CC) in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE), H.P. State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB) celebrated World Environment Day here at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla.
Land Restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience’ is a theme for environment day this year.
On the occasion of World Environment Day participants took a pledge on Mission Life at 7:30 AM and Cleanliness Campaign was held at Jakhoo hills where around 300 participants of town took part. An Environment Rally of around 400 Students of Shimla started with slogans from 5 locations of town i.e. Chhota Shimla, Panchayat Bhawan, Auckland House, Sanjauli & Chaura Maidan and assembled at Ridge. The main function of World Environment Day was held at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla.
The Chief Guest for the function was Prabodh Saxena, Worthy Chief Secretary, Government of Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Guest was received by the Officials and he visited the Science Model Exhibition. The programme was started with lighting of lamp by the Chief Guest and Saraswati Vandana.
D.C. Rana, Director (DEST&CC)-cum-Member Secretary (MS), HIMCOSTE honored the Chief Guest with a plant. Welcome address was given by Sh. D.C. Rana, Director (DEST&CC)-cum-Member Secretary (MS), HIMCOSTE.
A skit was presented by the Students of G.S.S.S, Lakkar Bazar on Environment Awareness and a video Journey prepared by H.P. State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB) was shown. The Chief Guest released the poster, calendar and pamphlet on Climate Change.
Prabodh Saxena, Chief Secretary, Himachal Pradesh congratulated all the participants on World Environment Day (WED). He stressed to protect the environment and do collective efforts to solve the issues related to deforestation, environment pollution and climate change.
He also requested to do the minimum use of plastics in daily life. Chief Guest also distributed awards for Hackathon – 2024, Best Eco Club of State, State level Painting & Slogan Writing Competition, Green School Programme, EEP Logo Competition Award & Environment Leadership Award.
