Kangra, Himachal Pradesh:
In a major boost to advanced eye care services in Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Obli Ramachandran Nandakumar, a globally acclaimed retina specialist, will now provide regular complex retina surgery services at SMI Hospital Ghurkari.
Announcing the development, Dr. Sandeep Mahajan, Founder, Chairman and Senior Ophthalmologist at SMI Hospital, said the move marks a significant milestone for eye care in Kangra and the state. With experience of performing over 5,000 complex retina surgeries and training at premier institutions including AIIMS Delhi and Aravind Eye Hospital, Dr. Nandakumar’s association will bring world-class retina treatment to the region for the first time.
Dr. Mahajan emphasized that patients suffering from retinal disorders will no longer need to travel to metro cities or other states for advanced surgical care. “Our priority has always been to integrate modern technology with quality treatment. For 45 years, SMI Hospital has remained committed to protecting patients’ vision with the best possible medical facilities,” he said.
The hospital’s retina department, led by experienced specialists including Dr. Aditi Prashar and Dr. Kumari Mugdha, has been successfully treating patients for years. Under various government health schemes, many retina patients have received free or highly subsidized treatment at the hospital, saving both time and expenses.
With modern diagnostic equipment and an experienced medical team, SMI Hospital continues to strengthen its position as a leading center for ophthalmic care in Himachal Pradesh.
