Shoolini University celebrated World Rose Day in association with YouWeCan, a voluntary organisation, by organising an event “Pink Tree – Message of Hope for cancer survivors”.
World Rose Day for cancer patients is observed in honour of Melinda Rose, a Canadian girl, who was diagnosed with Askin’s Tumor, a rare blood cancer when she was just 12 years old and could survive only a few weeks.
The Pink Tree event was inaugurated by Chancellor, Prof. P.K Khosla. He praised the efforts of the YouWeCan volunteers of the campus for conducting such an event in the university. Prof. Khosla said that Cancer is a dreadful disease and Shoolini University is engaged in research on cell biology. The university has also received Rs crore from philanthropist Raj Khosla for cancer research in the university.
Vice-President Ms. Avnee Khsola also tied a message of hope on the Pink Tree for the cancer warriors. She said that University would gift plants along with the messages to the cancer ward in IGMC, Shimla. She also applauded the efforts of the volunteers of YouWeCan club in the University.
The messages on the decorated pink tree were tied by all the Dean and Head of respective departments from the university. The event was organised by Dean Student welfare, Mrs. Poonam Nanda.
