Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology (BUEST) Nursing College observed World Tuberculosis Day on 24th March 2026 with great enthusiasm and awareness. On this occasion, a special guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Ameesh Sharma from Ameesh Hospital for the B.Sc. Nursing students. The program was organized in line with this year’s theme: “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Bharat, Powered by Jan Bhagidari.”
Dr. Sharma delivered an insightful session highlighting the clinical, social, and preventive aspects of Tuberculosis. He explained the latest diagnostic techniques such as CBNAAT and Truenat machines, which help in rapid detection of TB and improve patient outcomes.
During the session, Dr. Sharma emphasized the crucial role of nurses in the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). He described nurses as the frontline warriors who play a key role in patient counseling, monitoring treatment, and ensuring adherence to the DOTS protocol. He also discussed the importance of Nikshay Poshan Yojana, a government initiative that provides nutritional and financial support to TB patients for better recovery.
The lecture also addressed the issue of social stigma associated with TB and encouraged nursing students to actively participate in spreading awareness in communities to support the vision of a TB-Mukt Bharat (TB-Free India).
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A discussion, where students asked questions about Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB) and the precautions healthcare workers should follow. The event ended with a vote of thanks by the Principal of Nursing, appreciating Dr. Sharma for his valuable insights.
The program successfully motivated and equipped the future nursing professionals with knowledge and commitment to contribute towards eliminating TB and building a healthier India.
